645 or 67 format?

Mamiya UK Forum: General: 645 or 67 format?

having used the 645 and both rb and rz
i have to say i love the rz67 i hand hold almost all the time and find no problems. it fits in the hand perfectly.
use anything faster than a 50asa you will notice
a difference
carrying around can cause a problem due to weight, but you get used to it, you just carry what you need and leave the rest. you do not need the kitchen sink every time you go out

I'm sure there will be some difference even comparing the 645 and 67 negatives. The question is is the significance great enough to justify carting along a 2.5kg 67 everywhere I go? Also, the problem I have with the 67 is it's not possible to shoot fast enough and to hand hold. I'm not sure if the 645 can be handheld for quick shots. That's why I need advice from those who have handled both types and give me some feedback.
Thanks.

I firstly, am a big user of 645 as it is simple, light even in SLR Format, all my opinons are based on that.

645 does offer a greater area(2.7 times) than 35MM and due to deign of the units are lightweight, simple, and easy to find new or S/H accessories for, they are the nearest you get to 35MM in usability, I have tried 6X7 cameras(RZ primarily) although the options/size are larger, when printing I haven't noticed any difference after enlarging to 24X30, this is based mainly on slow 50 slide film. at first, Id say the use of the 6X7 over 645 is negligible, considering the size difference, which is one thing you need to take into account, if youa re to carry up a mountain/long distance to get a top shot, leave the 67 at home. I cannot speak for RF's as I don't use them.

I'm moving to medium format and would like to know if a 645 would give improved images that are significant enough as compared to 35mm or should I go for a 67? I like to enlarge images to 24x30 sizes. My photos are portraits, still life and landscapes and I travel quite a bit. Anyone care to advise?
