Mamiya UK Forum: General: M Adapter for Universal

Very useful explanation! I know now to keep my "eyes peeled" for either
- a pre-RB adapter;
- or a horizontal adapter from the later years...

Thanks!

John,

The vertical M adapter is exclusively for the RB67 and enables Press Universal backs to be used on the RB67 in "portrait mode". This is because the revolving adapter has to be removed from the RB to enable the use of Press backs. The layout then is RB body, P adapter, M adapter (horizontal or vertical)and finally Press back. To sum up, after all this information on the RB67, you do require the horizontal M adapter. Note that "light trapping" material can be obtained from http://www.micro-tools.com/Merchant2/e_restore.htm

I'm in the (slow) process of building a Universal set, by buying bits and pieces here & there (not the cheapest solution, but can spread the cost!).
On Ebay, I found a few M adapters, but in most cases were tatty, and having read of light leaks problems, etc, I steered clear of them.
On a couple of occasions however, I have seen advertised a more recent version, called M ADAPTER - HORIZONTAL (or VERTICAL). In all cases, they seemed to be in a "modern logo" boxes (blue/silver), and advertised as compatible for RB67/Universal.
I have a fairly recent manual for the camera, but it mentions only one type of M Adapter. I have asked the sellers on each occasion, but they did not seem to want to give a definitive answer that they are OK for use with the Universal.
Does anyway know if they are definitely compatible? I need to move on from just polaroid shots, he he...
Thanks a lot in advance!
